For this episode of our culinary adventures on the bike, we're actually crossing the Potomac on Historic White's Ferry and biking to Brunswick, MD on the C&O canal trail where we'll stop at Boxcar Burgers for an amazing burger and ice cream! There's lots of sites along the way, so join is for 3 minutes while we share the highlights of our 3 hour adventure!
While we are going on a bike ride today, I also run along the C&O canal trail, my in-laws go for long walks, and you'll even see horses! It's great for everybody! It's about 180 miles long, but I'm not planning on riding that length any time soon. But, I love that the C&O canal trail runs right by Leesburg. All you have to do is jump on White's Ferry and you're there.
It's about 13 miles to Point of Rocks from White's Ferry and about 20 miles to Brunswick from White's Ferry. So, out and back... it's not hard math. ;)
If you don't want to bike that far, another great option is to drive Point of Rocks instead and it's only about 6 miles to Brunswick (12 miles out and back), or 12 miles to Harper's Ferry! Both are really fun rides. And for the truly brave. it's 25 miles from Point of Rocks to Shepardstown! 50 miles in one day is a lot though!
The goal for this ride was Boxcar burgers. But there are some really cute places to eat and drink in Brunswick! You could spend a day just exploring this town!
Turning around after a beer and a burger is tough, but we raced back and caught the ferry just in time for some really amazing views as the sun lowered into the sky.
Getting to Point of Rocks, you'll drive up Route 15 through the Lucketts region which has a ton of great homes. The closest (and largest) neighborhood is Village Green just a few minutes from the Point of Rocks bridge. I do a lot of real estate business in this region, especially since I live in Raspberry Falls, which happens to also be right across from White's Ferry! There are a ton of great neighborhoods along this section, so if you're interested in the area, be sure to check out my Lucketts page!
Alternatively, you can do this route in reverse and start in Brunswick, which is right across the river from the town of Lovettsville!!! So many great neighborhoods in Lovettsville! Be sure to check out my Oktoberfest write up for the areas largest Oktoberfest event held thee!
I love the outdoors and I love the fact that I can get to this national treasure just a few miles from downtown Leesburg. Be sure to check out my other posts highlighting great activities, events and things to do in Loudoun County here:
