Lovettsville Oktoberfest

Updated: Jun 2

Lovettsville Oktoberfest is probably the biggest and maybe longest running in Loudoun. Known originally as "The German Settlement" they have roots going back to 1732! Starting Friday night, they have live bands all over town, fun activities, traditional (and non-traditional) German food, and lots of beer (shocking).

Friday night my husband and I ended up at 1836 Kitchen and Taproom eating brats and cabbage and listening to Best of Loudoun winner Rowdy Ace Band, where I score a short interview with the man himself, Todd Rowdy Tolbert!

Saturday morning, Lovettsville Oktoberfest continues as Fitness Image Results, Jeffrey Strahan, put on their 5K race around the town's brand new Lovettsville Community Park which opened this April. For all you Charlie lovers out there (my dog), he took first place for dogs!

That afternoon we got some great footage of the wiener races from the air and on the ground. Very exciting and the announcers were hilarious! Check the video for the slow motion replay!

And the live music continued all day long with bands across town. There were at least a dozen musical acts throughout the weekend! I was hoping to catch an interview with lead singer of the Pool Boys Dan Blanchet, but he was too busy rocking the stage. Got a little clip of them rocking out towards the end of the video though!

And if you're looking for something a little more traditional, they have traditional live German music, the beer Stein hauling & hoisting competitions and so much more!

Lovettsville is growing like crazy. And some folks might think this was just a sleepy little town that suddenly is being consumed by urban sprawl. But Lovettsville in the 1930s actually was a booming town and even had all three car dealerships of the time (Ford, Chrysler & Chevy). Today you can check out the Lovettsville museum in town or read up on their Historical Society website!

Lovettsville is a beautiful centerpiece surrounded by farms and neighborhoods, plenty of wide open spaces and is close to the Potomac, the C&O canal and neighboring Brunswick, MD. The new town green offers a great community space for this much sought after destination, and the historic areas still have these beautiful old homes and businesses. It's a great blend of new and old and it makes Lovettsville a wonderful place to live!
