While many of us are planning on on overindulging during this Holiday Season there are those among us in need now more than ever. the Freeze Your Gizzard 5K in Leesburg is a great opportunity to burn off some of those calories, get outside with the family and support a great local cause: Loudoun Hunger Relief! It's sponsored by Town of Leesburg, Virginia and normally takes place at Ida Lee Recreation Center, but this year, you can create your own! There are three routes for a virtual 5K I created for the video and it's easy to create your own also!
Here are three routes I put together for you to do your own virtual 5K Freeze Your Gizzard race. Or if you just want to train, there are great for that too!
Route 1
This is one of my favorites. Start and stop in Ida Lee run through the neighborhood of Old Waterford Knoll. I used to live there for ten years! It's a great neighborhood, and I still have friends there and have listed a few homes!
Route 2
This one takes you the other direction into town and through the neighborhood of Exeter. Another great route through a great neighborhood! Be sure to check out the neighborhood page for more details on Exeter amenities, attractions and homes for sale!
Route 3
If you're tired of starting at Ida Lee, this one starts at Loudoun County High School. While you can always do "out and backs" on the W&OD, this route uses W&OD for the out, and takes you through downtown Leesburg on your way back for a change of scenery!
And if you want to run in the original course, there's nothing stopping you!
And remember, this is all for a GREAT cause: Loudoun Hunger Relief. If you can't run in the race, please consider making a food donation!
Let's hope COVID doesn't stick around forever and maybe one day we can finally come back together and do this race in person instead of virtual. I love seeing all those smiling faces at the finish line!
So, get out there and Freeze Your Gizzard Leesburg!!!
